AeroPress, Inc. is the manufacturer of the AeroPress coffee maker, an innovative coffee press beloved by a multitude of global fans. The company is owned by founder, inventor, and retired Stanford University engineering instructor Alan Adler.

In 1984 Alan founded his company as Superflight, Inc. to manufacture and sell his new invention, the record-breaking Aerobie flying ring. The Aerobie ring was a huge success after it set a Guinness World Record for longest throw. In the years that followed Alan kept inventing and the Company introduced many additional innovative sport toys that it sold all over the world.

In 2004 Alan began studying the coffee brewing process and tinkering with coffee maker designs because he wanted a device that would brew a cup of coffee as delicious as he knew it could be. Initially he had no idea he was developing a new product for his Company, let alone its most successful product. At a coffee industry trade show in November, 2005, the Company debuted its new AeroPress coffee maker. Industry experts admitted it brewed delicious coffee but it was initially greeted with great skepticism. It was a completely new kind of coffee maker invented and being manufactured by a toy company.

Around this time Alan decided to change the Company’s name to Aerobie to match its brand. At that point, because not everything in the product line flew, Superflight no longer seemed appropriate.

After struggling for a couple years to establish credibility in the coffee world, sales of the AeroPress to serious coffee lovers took off across the USA and in over 60 countries. The Company flourished for over a decade selling Aerobie sport toys with their astonishing flying performance and AeroPress coffee makers that brew deliciously smooth, rich coffee.

Then Alan decided to cut back. In the summer of 2017 Alan sold the assets of the Aerobie sport toy business including the Aerobie brand to Swimways, a subsidiary of Spin Master Ltd. He renamed the Company AeroPress, Inc. to reflect its new focus on the coffee press business.

The proprietary design and exceptional performance of the AeroPress coffee maker have become widely recognized. It has been prominently featured by every type of major media around the world for over a decade and has even inspired its own array of fan-run AeroPress Championships in dozens of countries. The Championship circuit culminates each year in a World AeroPress Championship.
