The Chestnut C5 is Timemore’s latest 2025 manual coffee grinder featuring the 7th generation S2C-042-III burr set. The standard C5 has 30 micrometer adjustment steps, mainly designed for pour-over, Vietnamese phin, and moka pot brewing.
Some manual espresso tools need finer adjustment steps to get the best coffee quality. That’s why Timemore created the ESP version with adjustment steps of just 15 micrometers.
THE KEY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TIMEMORE C5 AND C5 ESP IS THE GRIND ADJUSTMENT
TIMEMORE CHESTNUT C5
The C5 has 48 adjustment clicks in one 360-degree rotation, with each click about 30 micrometers apart, covering all brewing methods.
TIMEMORE C5ESP/ESP PRO
The ESP line has 50 adjustment clicks in one 360-degree rotation, with each click about 15 micrometers apart, so it takes over 2 full rotations to cover all brewing methods.
SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN C5 ESP AND C5 ESP PRO
Timemore added a Pro version to the C5 ESP line with a foldable handle. Basically, they share the same grinder body and only differ in the handle. The Pro’s foldable handle is more compact and sits more balanced on a table, while the ESP’s fixed handle feels more comfortable during grinding.

- Same: Entire body frame, burr set, and grind size adjustment mechanism
- Different: The C5 ESP Pro handle folds up, while the C5 ESP handle is fixed
THE BEST S2C 042-III BURR SET EVER, USED IN THE C5 SERIES
All C5 series grinders use the 7th generation S2C-042-III burr set. The 42mm burr diameter is even larger than Timemore’s electric Millab E01 grinder. It grinds quickly and produces well-distributed particle sizes optimized for manual brewing methods.
NEW S2C-042-III BURR SET
Large 42mm diameter with 7 evenly distributed blades and a cut-before-grind mechanism for faster and smoother grinding.
PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION CHART
Sharp blades, extended cutting edges, and larger teeth working first improve consistency by about 5% compared to the previous S2C660 burr set on the C3.
