Glass has a thermal conductivity of approximately 1 W/mK, while ceramic sits at around 3.107 W/mK. So if the wall thickness is similar, you’ll need significantly more hot water to bring a glass dripper up to a stable, even temperature.
That’s why many cafés aren’t fond of glass drippers — pre-heating takes longer, which slows down service.
But if you’re someone who brews at a relaxed pace and values coffee quality over speed, and doesn’t mind using a little extra hot water to rinse, the Timemore glass dripper is a great fit.
Once it reaches a stable temperature, glass actually loses heat more slowly than ceramic. And with the Timemore’s thicker walls, thermal stability is even better.
This makes the entire extraction process more consistent. Your coffee will taste better and taste consistently good — not hit or miss from one cup to the next.
Just remember one thing: use about double the hot water to pre-heat this dripper compared to others!
