In 2025, the price of fresh coffee cherries doubled compared to the previous harvest. Many processing stations in Ethiopia became very hesitant to purchase cherries for processing. As a result, most stations in Yirgacheffe, Guji, and Sidama operated at half capacity — and many closed entirely.
Many smallholder farming families were forced to dry their own cherries at home. This increased the supply of naturally processed coffee, but at the cost of consistency. A serious shortage of specialty washed coffees swept across Ethiopia for the 2026 harvest.
BOTABAA — THE PURE YIRGACHEFFE OF 2026
Despite the scarcity, the 2026 Yirgacheffe Botabaa harvest marks the return of a classically pure flavor. Thanks to a meticulous washed processing method, notes of lemon, white peach, and lychee shine with a clarity reminiscent of morning dew resting in a garden.
Upon its debut in 2018, this coffee earned an impressive score of 95 from Coffee Review. It’s not hard to understand why — it is genuinely rare to find a classic washed Yirgacheffe that expresses its identity so fully and directly. A flavor profile built on the natural quality of the bean itself, rather than processing tricks designed to create a point of difference.

FLAVOR PROFILE OF ETHIOPIA YIRGACHEFFE BOTABAA
This is Yirgacheffe at its finest and most authentic. A vivid, fragrant burst of yellow lemon peel, bergamot orange, juicy peach, and sweet lychee spreads across the palate. The dominant flavor is a combination of lemon cream and ripe peach, accented by sweet notes of lychee, bergamot, and jasmine.
The finish brings an Earl Grey-like aftertaste with a hint of orange oil and a faint floral whisper. The overall experience is vibrant, sweet, and keeps you reaching for the next sip until the last drop is gone.
Cupping note: Lemon peel, Bergamot, Peach, Lychee, Earl Grey Tea, Florals, Smooth and clean.
