The Flair 49 Pro is the most refined version of the Pro line, launched to replace the Pro 3 with a simpler and faster brewing workflow. Instead of a small brew head, the Flair 49 Pro uses a full 49mm portafilter that’s incredibly quick and clean to detach and maintain.

WHY DOES THE FLAIR 49 PRO USE A 49MM BASKET INSTEAD OF 51/53 OR 58MM?

The 49mm basket size was primarily used on espresso machines from the 1960s, and over time basket sizes grew larger. Today, professional baskets are typically 58mm and are used mainly in café environments with doses around 18–20g per shot. The Flair 49 Pro returns to this size because it actually offers quite a few advantages for home brewers:

• The deeper basket allows a coarser grind while still maintaining 9 bar of extraction pressure: Whether you’re using a basic grinder or one capable of micrometric adjustments, you’ll be able to dial in the right grind size with a 49mm basket.
• Reduced channeling during extraction: A smaller surface area means more uniform coffee distribution compared to spreading grounds across a wider surface.
• Supports a wide range of dose sizes without the risk of a too-thin puck: If you try to brew 12g in a 58mm basket, extraction becomes extremely difficult — a thin puck simply can’t generate enough resistance for the water to push through. In a 49mm basket, the puck is about 40% thicker, providing enough resistance for 9 bar extraction. When brewing 20g, just grind slightly coarser.

• Minimal heat loss: The slim cylinder loses very little heat when boiling water is poured in, ensuring extraction at the optimal temperature of 90–92°C. That said, it’s recommended to pre-warm for 30 seconds and flush once before actually pulling a shot.
• Comes with 2 baskets: One standard bottomless basket for those with a quality grinder. The other features a pressure booster layer for those using pre-ground coffee or a mid-range grinder.
• Superior attention to detail: All hooks and piston latches are made entirely from steel, so there’s no risk of breaking — even the top-of-the-line Flair 58 still uses a plastic latch on its pull hook, which hasn’t been upgraded to this standard.
