Mahlkonig X64 SD Coffee Grinder

In 2021, Mahlkönig launched the X54 coffee grinder as their first machine targeting the home segment. The machine was designed to handle various brewing styles. However, after 4 years of existence, the X54 ended up primarily serving small coffee shops rather than truly meeting the needs of home coffee brewers.

The X54’s drawbacks were an oversized hopper and lack of blow-up accessories, resulting in relatively high coffee retention in the machine. This affects coffee flavor if the machine isn’t used continuously.

The X64 Single Dose addresses all these shortcomings of the X54 and officially becomes the machine that should be in the homes of coffee brewing enthusiasts.

Users can choose lids according to their actual usage needs:

• For cold brew grinding: Choose the large hopper holding up to 100g
• For espresso grinding with complete coffee extraction: Choose the bellows blow-up hopper
• Anti-popcorning and sealed hoppers for those who prefer simplicity and neatness, accepting retention rates after grinding since they only use one bean type. Maximum coffee capacity with these lids is 30g

MAHLKÖNIG X64 SINGLE DOSE DRAWBACKS

• X64 is difficult to clean: Requires removing up to 7 screws (Phillips head) to access the burr set. On this issue alone, X64 loses comprehensively to Mazzer Philos (since Philos only needs a few fingers to easily disassemble and clean).
• Switching between brewing methods takes considerable time: Must turn many rotations for burrs to move from espresso to cold brew settings. However, using X64 at home means there’s no need to rush.
• Burr set doesn’t provide optimal flavor for pour over: Relatively high fine particle ratio reduces bright flavors when brewing light roast coffee.
• No integrated static elimination: In 2025, Mahlkönig still hasn’t updated with new technology to meet comprehensive user experience. However, the manufacturer includes a plastic cover to prevent coffee grounds from flying during grinding.
• Motor speed too fast leads to difficulty processing final beans: Due to motor speed reaching 1950 RPM, some final coffee beans continuously bounce back before being completely drawn into the burr set (especially larger-sized coffee beans).
