Buku Abel is a small village nestled in Hambella in the Guji region of deep southeastern Ethiopia. The elevation here is extremely impressive at 2300m above sea level, with cold and relatively harsh climate. As a result, coffee cherries here ripen slowly, are smaller than normal, and the beans have a very hard body. The essence of earth and sky, along with the patience of slow-working farmers, seeps into every Buku Abel coffee bean.
Buku Abel uses native arabica varieties that have been grown from generation to generation and are typically planted among shaded banana groves. Farmers here have accumulated hundreds of years of experience in harvesting to ensure coffee cherries are picked blood-red with sugar content at its peak.
For 4 consecutive years from 2015-2018, Buku Abel won championships in the Taste of Harvest Ethiopia competitions in the African region. The flavor of this coffee has remained pure year after year thanks to the hands of Ethiopian farmers.
FLAVOR PROFILE OF GUJI HAMBELLA BUKU ABEL NATURAL COFFEE

Guji Buku Abel coffee drying on raised beds under sunlight
After harvesting, coffee at Buku Abel is dried whole cherry on woven bamboo raised beds to prevent ground moisture from seeping back up during drying. After about 8 to 12 days, when the coffee reaches ~10% moisture content, it’s moved to storage. This processing method helps Buku Abel coffee shine with vibrant tropical fruit flavors.
When you drink it, you’ll experience overflowing flavors of peach, strawberry, and ripe mango. Light acidity and a pleasant, lingering creamy sweetness. This is a coffee that’s fascinating whether brewed as filter coffee or espresso (modern style with complex flavors).
Cupping note: Strawberry, Blueberry, Peach, Mango, Bergamot, Sweet
